  • Dense shrub growing up to 8 ft. tall
  • Distinctive maple-like lobed leaves and ball-like clusters of small white flowers with five petals and numerous red-tipped stamens
  • Flaky bark peels away in many layers
  • Fruit is inflated glossy red pod which turns dry and brown and then splits open to release seed
  • 1 gallon of water per week will produce more flowers
  • Leaves turn red in autumn before dropping
