Gardens Gone Native Plant Tour
CALLING ALL GARDENS
for April 27th, 2024 tour
Applications are now open for the 2024 Gardens Gone Native Plant (GGN) Tour. The GGN tour brings our community together every spring to celebrate and learn about CA native plants in the urban setting. Consider being a host this year. Share all your first hand native plant experience and the joys of gardening!
Guidelines for Tour Participant Applicants
The GGN committee bases garden selection based on the following considerations :
A. The garden is a minimum of 50% CA native plants based on area of coverage, number of native plant species/individuals, or both. Cultivars of CA natives are acceptable.
B. The garden gives an overall visual impression of being primarily devoted to California native plants.
C. The stage of development of the garden is taken into consideration, as extremely young or new gardens may require an initial establishment period before being ready for the tour.
D. The garden appears maintained and cared for. General weeding is required.
E. The garden will inspire and instruct tour participants. Gardens that have teachable aspects (e.g., greywater systems) or key features (e.g., water efficiency) are encouraged to apply.
F. The gardens on the tour cover a variety of habitats and focuses on residential landscaping.
G. Finally, the location of the garden in relation to other gardens on the tour is considered. Past experience has shown that tour participants prefer to visit a grouping of gardens that are close together rather than isolated gardens.
If you are interested in being a garden host during tour day, please complete and submit an application online.
