Sailor Bar, ARP

            Waiver and Sign-Up Required

After an 18-month hiatus from Friday Walks, we are happy to be able to offer them again. To gather safely, however, we need to follow some new rules.

  1. You must sign an Electronic Liability Waiver in advance of joining SacValley Chapter Friday Walks. Signing an Electronic Liability Waiver is a permanent change required statewide by the California Native Plant Society. Please note that signing the waiver for SacValley Chapter Friday Walks applies only to our chapter’s Friday Walks and does not cover SacValley Chapter Field Trips or any events or field trips offered by other CNPS chapters. Once you have signed the SacValley Chapter Friday Walks waiver, it is valid through the end of the current calendar year.
  2. For now, a limited number of participants can join each Friday Walk. The limit is currently 20 participants and one leader. During this initial restart, only four new participants can sign up for each walk. If you have signed up for a Friday Walk at any point after January 1, 2013, you are not considered a new participant.

Walks are held unless heavy rain, extreme heat or very poor air quality are forecast.  Cancellation notices posted by 7PM Thursday.

CANCELLED.  All Sacramento County Parks closed Thursday through noon Friday due to high winds forecast and danger of falling trees.

Friday, March 10, 9:15am-11:45am, Sailor Bar, ARP

This walk will be rescheduled for March 17.

Sailor Bar holds a mix of oak woodlands, riparian habitat and is bathed in sunshine.  We’ll meet at the parking lot near Turtle Pond.  We’ll start the walk going around the western side of the pond.  Next we will climb to the top of the hill above the pond, drop back down to the pond and then hill another hill which brings us close to the park entrance.  We’ll then make a clockwise loop along dirt roads to the river and then along a path above the riverbank before looping back to the parking area.  A number of native plants were seen in bloom early Saturday morning including Amsinckia menziesii, Claytonia perfoliata, Dipterostemon capitatus, Eschscholzia caespitosa, Lomatium utriculatum, Marah fabacea, Sanicula bipinnata, Sanicula crassicaulis and Triphysaria erianthal.  Email John Schmidt for more information or call 916-500-8456.

To sign up for the March 10 Sailor Bar Walk and receive the link for the 2023 Electronic Liability Waiver if needed, email John Schmidt or call 916-500-8456 for more information.

Bring water, snack, hat, and weather protection.  It can be windy near the river.  You may want a hiking stick for the climbs if there is rain during the week.
