Waiver and Sign-up required.

You MUST sign an Electronic Liability Waiver in advance for Sacramento Valley CNPS Friday Walks. This is a permanent change required by CNPS statewide. Note that this Waiver is for Sacramento Valley CNPS Friday Walks only and does not cover Sacramento Valley CNPS Field Trips nor any Events or Field Trips offered by other CNPS Chapters. The only difference with the Sacramento Valley CNPS Friday Walks Liability Waiver is that once signed it is valid through the end of the current calendar year.  Email John Schmidt to receive a Waiver form.
For now the Friday Walks will also have a limit on the number of participants. Initially the limit is 20 attendees plus 1 leader.

Walks held unless heavy rain, extreme heat or very poor air quality are forecast. Cancellation notices posted by 7PM Thursday evening.

Cephalanthus occidentalis var. californicus along American River

Friday, September 16, 9:15am-12:00pm. Larchmont Community Park near ARP

Join us for a late summer walk on a trail that winds above the bank of the American River. The area holds a mix of native and non-native trees, shrubs and herbs. Expect to see some birds along the river. The trail upriver is shady in parts but expect more sunshine on the return which will be closer to the top of the levee. The trail continues all the way east to the Gristmill area with a view across the river to the Wm. Pond Recreation Area. We’ll turn around and follow another path part of the way back. This walk will be longer than normal, about 3.5 miles. Little climbing is involved except 1 10′ gully near Gristmill. For more information, email John Schmidt or call/text 916-500-8456.
Bring water, hat, snack, appropriate weather protection and possibly binoculars. The leader will carry a set of hiking sticks should they be needed by anyone.
Meet at the red teardrop on this map or use the directions below. Looking at the map will help locate this very residential park next to a school.
