Beeks Bight, Folsom SRA

Waiver and Sign-up required.

Welcome to the new Friday Walks on a Saturday. With the return are a few new Rules:
You MUST sign an Electronic Liability Waiver in advance for Sacramento Valley CNPS Friday Walks. This is a permanent change required by CNPS statewide. Note that this Waiver is for Sacramento Valley CNPS Friday Walks only and does not cover Sacramento Valley CNPS Field Trips nor any Events or Field Trips offered by other CNPS Chapters. The only difference with the Sacramento Valley CNPS Friday Walks Liability Waiver is that once signed it is valid through the end of the current calendar year.  Email John Schmidt to receive a Waiver form.
For now the Friday Walks on a Saturday will also have a limit on the number of participants. Initially the limit is 13 attendees plus 1 leader.

Walks held unless there is heavy rain, extreme heat or very poor air quality. Cancellation notices posted by 7 PM Thursday evening if the forecast is unfavorable.

Saturday, April 20, 9:00am – 1:30pm. Beeks Bight, Folsom SRA

Note: Some of the information below will be updated over the next couple of weeks.  This walk is being posted early so initial information will be available for the SacValley CNPS April eNewsletter.

Join us on an early spring Friday Walk at Beeks Bight.  Due to construction projects to expand the storage capacity of Folsom Lake, the road to Beeks Bight will be closed until further notice.  This closure started in the fall 2023 and there is not posted time of when this work will be completed. Therefore we will have to meet in the Folsom Lake Main Granite Bay Beach area.  This new Beeks Bight route was scouted in late February and again on March 30. It will be about 5 miles total walking or possibly longer if more plants start blooming. We will follow a trail that starts near the horse trailer parking area and will walk to Beeks Bight from the meeting area.  We may have to return along the path if the lake level is too high for a shorter walk back to the parking area. An updated trail description will be added after couple more scouting walks. This is a great place to walk and see a diversity of plants and birds. Due to the road being closed at the horse trailer location there will not be many people on the trail.  There are currently no bike or running events scheduled for March 20. For more information, email John Schmidt or phone 916-500-8456.

Bring water, hat, snack, and layered protection. A walking stick might be useful if this years rain storms continue.
Park entrance fee is $12 or a current State Park Pass.

Use the linked map (Red teardrop for parking area) or directions below.
Directions from downtown Sacramento
– I-80 East to Douglas East (exit 103A)
– Continue east on Douglas to the Granite Bay entrance on Park Rd.
– Pass the entrance kiosk. Self-register if no one is there.
– Once in the park follow the signs towards Beeks Bight, but turn in at the entrance to the Granite Bay beach area.
– We’ll meet in the Parking lot closer to the main road and further from the building at the beach. at the end of the road.
-It’s about a 3 minute drive from the park entrance to Main Granite Bay Beach parking area.

There are restroom facilities at the meeting location closer to the beach parking side of the large lot. The rest facilities at the Beeks Bight parking area will also be opened.

Please try to be on time. We’ll try to start walking by 9:15am. If the traffic is heavy at the entrance to the park, we will adjust the starting time. Since this is the first time this Friday Walk has been held on a Saturday the starting and meeting time might be adjusted to an earlier starting time over the next couple of weeks.  The road up Douglas Blvd. to the park entrance east of Auburn Folsom Blvd will be check the next couple of Saturdays. If either of those weekends have significant entrance delays, the meeting time will be adjusted to an earlier time.
There is cell reception at the meeting area. But it may be poor as we descend to the Beeks Bight parking area later in the day.
