Ancil Hoffman ARP

Waiver and Sign-Up Required

After an 18-month hiatus from Friday Walks, we are happy to be able to offer them again. To gather safely, however, we need to follow some new rules.

  1. You must sign an Electronic Liability Waiver in advance of joining SacValley Chapter Friday Walks. Signing an Electronic Liability Waiver is a permanent change required statewide by the California Native Plant Society. Please note that signing the waiver for SacValley Chapter Friday Walks applies only to our chapter’s Friday Walks and does not cover SacValley Chapter Field Trips or any events or field trips offered by other CNPS chapters. Once you have signed the SacValley Chapter Friday Walks waiver, it is valid through the end of the current calendar year.
  2. For now, a limited number of participants can join each Friday Walk. The limit is currently 20 participants and one leader. During this initial restart, only four new participants can sign up for each walk. If you have signed up for a Friday Walk at any point after January 1, 2013, you are not considered a new participant.

Walks are held unless heavy rain, extreme heat or very poor air quality are forecast.  Cancellation notices posted by 7PM Thursday.

Friday, January 26, 9:15am-11:45am, Ancil Hoffman Park, Carmichael, ARP

Parking Note: Meet at parking lot near the green waste dumping area across from the golf course, sports field and picnic areas, NOT at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center. See the map link below, if not sure.

Join us for a winter walk around Ancil Hoffman Park. We’ll head down river to view the new salmon and steelhead channel created last fall.  Then we’ll continue on a loop around the golf course and into Effie Yeaw dropping down near the river in a few sections.  More details will be added after scouting Tuesday morning, but this won’t be done until late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.  Part of the walk will include walking along the river bank bordering Effie Yeaw and walking sticks might be desired by some.  If there is time we can study the Jepson key for Pseudognaphalium. The walk will start at the Carmichael Creek overflow basin near the sports and picnic fields. We’ll walk into Effie Yeaw Nature Center and head upriver to the old BBQ area.  From there we’ll head down river along the bank and pass close by the meeting area before heading further down river along the new salmon and steelhead channel section.  When we reach the older side channel we will climb up to the main trail looping the park and walk back to the meeting area close to the driving range.  A few natives are in bloom along with some non-natives starting to boom.  Email John Schmidt for more information or call 916-500-8456.

Bring water, hat, snack, and sun protection.  A walking stick will be helpful in crossing some longer river rock sections close to the river.

Parking is $7 or use a Parks Annual Pass.

Meet near the red teardrop on this map or use the directions below.
