Social Justice Committee: Ellen Pimentel Julie Clements Nellie Zapien Christina Lewis

In this talk, Ellen will provide our members with an update on the activity of the Chapter’s Social Justice Committee, including ways you can get involved. Topics will include community outreach and partnerships, membership projects, environmental justice advocacy, and intersectional environmentalism. The goal of the Social Justice Committee is to cultivate equity and inclusion in our chapter and the communities we serve, so that we may all enjoy a just and safe chapter that is as inclusive and diverse as our region.

Speaker Bio:

Ellen Pimentel is a professional botanist and senior plant ecologist with H. T. Harvey & Associates in Sacramento, California. She is a longtime member of CNPS and has been the Sacramento Valley Chapter’s Rare Plant Chair since 2016. In summer 2020 she also became the head of the Chapter’s Social Justice Committee, and in November 2020 she was elected as Chapter President. Ellen loves working and playing with plants both in the wild and at home and is looking for ways to ensure equity in the realm of botany and conservation.
