FIELD TRIPS Trips to local vernal pools and Table Mountain in late March signal the beginning of our wildflower season. As days progress we follow the spring up the Sierra to sites such as Calaveras Big Trees, Lake Alpine and Echo Lake. With help from the University of the Pacific Botany Department, nature photographer Bob Stahmer identifies some of the flora for the regional interpretive centers. Our season usually concludes in late July with a trip to Carson Pass for the famous tricolored splendor of lupines, paintbrush and yampah covering the hillside.

NATIVE PLANT GARDEN AT OAK GROVE REGIONAL PARK: I-5 & 8-MILE ROAD IN STOCKTON

Members of CNPS co-manage the garden with the Oak Grove Nature Center docents. Plants of the Great Central Valley are featured in three habitats: Grassland, Streamside and Valley Oak Woodland. Many species are those that were used by the Native Americans in earlier times. Visit the garden in late March and early April for colorful displays of bush lupine and golden grassland annuals.
