The SacValley CNPS supports the “Kids in Native Gardens” program, which is designed to help bring California native plants into the hands and minds of school children. Many elementary schools have taken advantage of our chapter’s $100 grant program, but the opportunity is available to any grade level; $100 will be reimbursed for the purchase of California native plants. These plants can be purchased at any CNPS chapter plant sale or at the various native plant nurseries in your area. For a list of native plants that grow successfully in our area and for a list of nurseries please review Native Plants Suitable for Sacramento Area.
Our chapter's desire is to have children grow up
knowing some of the plants that originate in California, as well as the wildlife
the plants attract. Just have your school-garden coordinator fill out
the
application and submit it at your convenience.
