Wildflower Weekend ‘08 Planning Meeting
Please join me to kick around what worked and what could be improved! Whether you are an Exhibitor or this was your first Wildflower Weekend, your input will be valuable. 2007 Wildflower Weekend THANK YOUs
Our 3rd Annual Wildflower Weekend at Crawford's Barn in Rancho Cordova was such a success! THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS: EDAW, Jones & Stokes, ECORP Consulting, College Greens East Homeowners Association, Linnea Fronce, Artist, Barbara Wolf - graphic design and printing by Master Color Printings in Roseville.
Our exhibitors put together outstanding displays. Thank you to Bonnie Ross, Dr.Debra Ayres, Diana Almendariz, Eva Butler, Ellen Dean, Frank Wallace, Glen Holstein, Jennifer Hogan, John Hunter, Ken Myatt, Mary Maret, Renee Shahrokh, Russell Huddleston, Tammy Mebane. And the Exhibitor Aides were great - Aimee Rutledge, Anne Klein, Deborah Stout, Jennifer Kerr, Dr. John Little, Julie Evens, Kristie Scarazzo, Lisa Serafini, Mark Bibbo, Patrick McIntyre, Steve Schoenig, Dr. Sue Britting, and Tom & Margaret Starbuck. Special help for The Discovery Zone was provided by Nature Bowl graduates Cierra Gardner, Annie Jenkins, Kaylene Moffett and maybe Nicole Hogan. Thank you Jen Hogan for bringing in this new energy!
Also Olga Myslivec thank you for your selection of books and help at Wildflower Weekend to you and Book enthusiast Barbara Wolf. (If you’re keeping score, yes that’s Barbara Wolf Newsletter Editor, Graphic Artist… and Anthropologist!
Incredibly energetic Mary Schiedt provided food once again. Mary purchases, prepares, and serves an array of food… her brownies should be outlawed! :-)
And then there’s the tireless enthusiasm of Amanda Jorgensen (CNPS Executive Director!) and Peggy Berry (Raffle Queen). Thank you! They truly should be cloned! Amanda & Hazel Gordon, helped with Membership for the Weekend. Thank You!
Carol Crofoot, our new Treasurer stepped up in a big way- cashiering both days. Helpers included Bill Patterson, Martha Mallery, and Emmy Gunterman.
Many hands make the work light –Professor Mike Baad’s CSUS students made light work of set up & take down of the exhibit and Plant Sale. Thank you Mike! And Andrew Newman, Elaine Manzanilla, Jamie Le Fevre, Jody Dunkel, Lorae Simpson, Rachel Ilagen, Shannon Johnson, Simona Altman, Victoria Barr-Evans, Wendy Brubaker. I’m sure there were more but I can’t find my list!
And thank you Richard Rivas for camping out at Crawford's Barn on Friday night! You provided peace of mind! … and Janie Booth (Publicity!), … And thank you Sabrina Okamura-Johnson for the beautiful flowers from the City Cemetery Demonstration Garden.
The Plant Sale was organized by the busiest lady on the block- Betsy Weiland. KUDOS BETSY! Also thank you Nursery folk: Janet Gerland and Cate Schmiedt from Cornflower Farms, Steve Dowty. And many of the CSUS students helped at the Plant Sale. And more help came from: Andy Phillips, Bernadette Balics, Bill Patterson, Bonnie Ross, Brook Edwards, Rick Bettis, John Martin, Joyce Martin, Julie Evens, Lynda Ives, Marin Meza, Martha Mallery, Mary Ann Robinson, Paul Townsend, Reese Williams, Robin Rietz, Steve Woodward, Susan Fregien, and Victoria Harris.
“Under the Tent’ talks were widely praised! THANK YOU Jessica Hankins for Gardening with Native Plants, Effie Yeaw Nature Center’s Shawna Protze for Wild Animals~Wild Habitats, and Diana Almendariz for Native American Uses. And saving my personal favorite for last- the Puppet Show! My family decided they wanted to do a volunteer project together and viola they organized and staged the entire production of the Helen DeGoosiness Show! Thank you Jeff Shaffer, Andy Anderson (built stage, set up, MC, & bagpiping!), Jarma Bennett, Eric Spiess, Candice Bennett (Helen DeGoosiness), Brian Bennett (Phil Sky, the Plant Science Guy), Jeff Bennett (all 4 wildflowers!), and audience motivators Cameron Shaffer, Numia, Tahi, George, Brenda, and Mira Bennett.
